Valencia Local Heroes: Rebeca Camara, Expat Insurance Broker For Adesalzi, An Adeslas Broker

Rebeca Camara is a stylish, sophisticated lady from Valencia. She is also an incredibly proactive agent for Adeslas health insurance who is completely bilingual. With special expat insurance offers for Valencia Life readers, Rebeca really is your one-stop shop for insurance needs. Eugene Costello met her for brunch…

I have an interest to declare; Rebeca is my broker, and the service she provides is phenomenal. I was advised to take out private health insurance to aid with getting my residencia, which I did. I then moved to Rebeca, and it was one of the best decisions I have made with regard to Spanish bureaucracy.

Now when I have a medical issue, Rebeca takes care of everything. Last year, after a bout of Covid, I was diagnosed with Long Covid – sindroma post Covid o Covid de largo tiempo – and I was finding it really tough to make an appointment to see a neumólogo (chest and lungs specialist). They were telling me that there were no appointments until October. So I mentioned it to Rebeca. Then she rang around various private hospitals and secured an appointment for me for the following week. Such is her approach to customer service.

So much for her professionally. Having Rebeca in your corner will ensure that you get the best treatment that you can. What about Rebeca the person?

Getting the background

We meet for brunch at Dulce de Leche in Ruzafa, a lovely sunny afternoon.

In her flawless English, unusual in Valencia, she tells me that she is Valencian. She is married to Stephane, whom she met when he came to Valencia around the time of the Americas Cup.

“Stephane is involved in the world of competitive sailing, and that is how we met. Fast forward a few years, and Stephane became a co-director of a company that makes sails and so on for well-known sailing brands.

“The factory is in Sri Lanka so we upped sticks and moved to Sri Lanka. But I soon became restless with the expat lifestyle. So I moved back to Valencia where I am doing up a house in Cabanyal and Stephane divides his time between here and Sri Lanka, a few months in each place.”

Her eyes twinkle as she leans forward to say, “It really is a recipe for a great relationship! We don’t have time to annoy each other…”

So what is her secret?

Rebeca replies, “Adesalzi is a direct Adeslas office with access to the full suite of insurance products offered by Adeslas, including knowing about all the special offers so we can always find the best deal. But where we make the real difference, I think, is in our after-sales service.

“I know what it is like to be an expat in a new country. Where you don’t know how things work and the language can be an issue. So what our clients say is that the real benefit is to have a broker that always has your back when you have problems with your health.

“I am happy to help my clients make appointments at clinics and hospitals because I understand how hard it can be when you are new in a country, don’t speak the language and get a bit lost in translation. And if clients need me to submit paperwork on their behalf, this is something we can also do directly from our Adeslas office in a fast and timely manner saving the client all the effort of doing it themselves.”

Ease of cover – at the best price

“Adeslas offers an online medical finder platform in English but if the client ever gets stuck or needs help finding a specialist we are always available to help,” says Rebeca.

“That way clients don’t have the need to depend on me 100% to book a simple appointment and they are also aware that they can also find it themselves online.

“We are only ever a WhatsApp away,” she adds.

“My philosophy is to only take clients where I know I can make a difference,” says Rebeca. “If we do the profile, and I can see they would be better with a competitor, I will tell them. Though thankfully that doesn’t happen very often!”, she says with a laugh.

“Adeslas is one of the largest insurance companies in Spain so we can find the right policy nine times out of ten. But what I mean is, we like to build relationships with our clients and make sure we can continue to help after the sale so we make sure our clients fit the model and will be happy. Being there when our clients most need us is our best asset.”

A portfolio of products to save you money

The more complex the need, the more Rebeca likes to find a solution. “Whether you are looking for insurance for residency purposes, are autonomo, running a business, or have a family or need cover for seniors, this is where I can work best at finding solutions,” says Rebeca. “As well as health, we do pet insurance, home insurance, car insurance and even funeral insurance. So we look for a portfolio of products to make sure we are saving you money.”

There was a TV advertisement for the AA in the UK for many years with the tagline, “To our members, we are the fourth emergency service”, and Rebeca occupies a similar spot here in Spain.

The service she gives her clients is exemplary, and all done with lashings of charm and efficiency.
