Here are a few cosy, cool, and comfortable places around Valencia to enjoy a coffee, a cocktail, or a warming glass of red. By Claudia Jackson
Helen Berger Hotel & Bar
This delightful boutique hotel and restaurant is a hidden gem in the centre of Valencia. The interior is reminiscent of a cosy living room with low lighting, book-lined shelves and comfortable armchairs, and a feeling of elegance and sophistication hits you as soon as you walk through the door. The service is impeccable, and there is an international menu featuring excellent food at surprisingly reasonable prices. Whether it be for a coffee or a three-course meal, Helen Berger is an experience that won’t be quickly forgotten.

Vino y Mil Flores
You’ll find it at the far entrance of the stunning Mercado de Colón (when walking from Calle Colón). Vino y Mil Flores boasts an attractive terrace bar where a choice of outdoor and covered tables make it the perfect option for catching the sun, or hiding from it. Despite the stunning location, the drinks are reasonably priced, however, the menu is limited and expensive for what you get. The service varies and while it can take a while to attract staff`s attention, they are generally happy and polite. All in all, this is a great place to have a coffee on a sunny day. While away a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon, or meet for pre-dinner drinks before heading out to eat. Maybe this wouldn’t top the list of cosy bars in Valencia, but it’s one of the coolest.

Café De Las Horas
If it’s sumptuous decadence and ceiling-gazing wonder you’re after, you can’t go far wrong with Café de las Horas. Inside is reminiscent of an opulent palace from bygone times. A glamourous mix of French boudoir and English tearoom that delights the soul. Add to that a decent bar menu (think breakfast, standard tapas and cakes), friendly bar staff and an impressive array of cocktails. This place is known for its Agua de Valencia, and you have the perfect place for a glamourous aperitivo. Located in El Carmen, just off the Plaza de la Virgen, Café de las Horas is one of the few places in Valencia where, for the full experience, it’s best to sit inside.

L’Ermita Cultural Café
If you’re looking for cosy bars in Valencia, tucked away in the backstreets of El Carmen, this cosy bar is perfect for those chilly nights when you want to put the world to rights over a glass of wine. The interior is a mix of exposed stone, dark wood and low lighting. Old books and bric-a-brac clutter shelves adding to the arty vibe. There’s a limited bar menu, and seating outside, but as a result of regular cultural events and live music, this place will warm you up in no time.
- Carrer del Bisbe En Jeroni 4, 46003 Valencia
La Bella De Cadiz
A feast for the eyes, La Bella de Cadiz is an eclectic mix of gothic chandeliers, antique pianos, old photos and scary-eyed dolls. Every surface is busy, with the weird and the wonderful competing for space with the beautiful and the sublime. You’ll find old-fashioned armchairs in small groups around low tables creating a cosy, intimate atmosphere, enhanced by the low lighting and unobtrusive background music. Although they don’t serve food, La Bella de Cadiz specialises in a range of cocktails – the house gin and tonic is not to be missed, for instance – making it the perfect place for a pre-dinner drink. La Bella de Cadiz does have limited outdoor seating, but like Café de las Horas, sitting inside is an experience in itself.
