Remote Work Europe and Remote Resilience Hub are hosting an immersive acclimatisation course from 6 – 9 November. Maya Middlemiss gives the lowdown
Valencia has never been a secret to those who know Spain well. With its golden beaches, thriving cultural calendar, Mediterranean lifestyle, and affordable cost of living compared to Madrid or Barcelona, it is no surprise that the city has become a magnet for international professionals.
Over the past few years, Valencia has also emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting hubs for remote work. Coworking spaces are busy, startup networks are thriving, and international entrepreneurs are choosing the city as a base for their projects. But as more people arrive, one challenge keeps coming up: how do you move from living in Valencia to truly belonging here?
Beyond sunshine and paella
It’s easy to be captivated by Valencia’s first impressions. Strolling through the Turia gardens, marvelling at the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences, or exploring the winding streets of El Carmen is enough to make anyone fall in love. But building a life here requires more than admiration.

Integration is the real key. And integration in Spain starts with language.
Without it, many internationals find themselves stuck in a limited bubble: socialising mainly with other expats, relying on intermediaries for bureaucracy, and missing out on the countless opportunities that arise from real connection with local people.
Language as a lifestyle unlock
That’s why Remote Work Europe and Remote Resilience Hub group of international professionals in Valencia are coming together this autumn for Spanish Business and Life – Valencia Edition, a four-day immersion designed to help participants gain the confidence to live and work fully in Spain. Founder Maya Middlemiss met Carolina Fernandez, an international entrepreneur born in Valencia and with a background as a journalist for Valencia newspaper Las Provincias at an immersive course in Mallorca in May and the idea for the Valencia enterprise was born.

Unlike traditional language classes, this programme doesn’t keep you behind a desk memorising grammar rules. Instead, it uses Valencia itself as the classroom:
- Practising Spanish in markets, cafés, and neighbourhood businesses.
- Exploring the city’s history and culture to understand the deeper context of daily life.
- Visiting startup and innovation hubs to learn the language of modern Spanish business.
- Building confidence through real interactions in the places where internationals actually live, work, and socialise.
The aim is not perfection, but confidence. When you can explain yourself at the gestoría, join conversations at a networking event, or simply share a laugh with your neighbours, life in Valencia changes dramatically.
Why Valencia is the perfect setting
Few cities are better suited to this kind of immersion. Valencia strikes a unique balance:
- International, but not overwhelming. The city has a strong global community, yet Spanish remains the natural daily language. This creates the ideal environment for practice.
- Innovative, but rooted in tradition. From bustling local markets to cutting-edge tech parks, participants can experience both sides of Spanish life in one place.
- Welcoming, but authentic. Valencianos are proud of their culture and open to sharing it, which makes every encounter a potential learning moment.
In other words, Valencia is not just the backdrop for this immersion — it is the teacher.
(But fear not – we also have an amazing human teacher as well, to guide and educate and power the whole experience!)
A better life for participants
The benefits of this kind of experience go beyond language itself. Participants will find that greater confidence in Spanish leads to:
- Lower stress when dealing with paperwork and official systems.
- Stronger professional credibility when working with Spanish clients or collaborators.
- Deeper friendships and connections in the local community.
- A richer daily life, where the city feels like home rather than a beautiful but distant stage.
It’s about making Valencia not only where you live, but where you truly belong. And where you don’t panic when you get a letter from the GVA in your buzon, fall into a conversation at the school gate, or receive an unexpected phonecall…
An opportunity for Valencia businesses
