Are you missing a hand of Texas Hold ‘Em but not a fan of casinos? Fear not. A free-to-enter Poker Club has launched in Valencia that combines card cunning with beers, food and social life.
Valencia Poker Club is the brainchild of Ryan Godwin, the carpenter of Cabanyal behind Made in Valencia. This is a bespoke furniture company that Ryan launched five years ago. He is now busy turning out original bespoke wooden furniture from the workshop in Pinedo. All made to order for residents of Valencia, and beyond.
Ryan is a London lad (well, technically Watford, but who’s counting?). He used to live on a houseboat in Surrey Quays. And heran an art gallery at the world-famous Camden market.
Look sharp, play sharp
His love of poker inspired him to set up a regular poker game at his own place. He has been hosting nights for mates monthly or more for the past three years. Now he is taking his love of the game to the next level. He is opening it up on a free-to-play basis to anyone who wishes to join in.
The theme of the events will be more social than stakes because there is no cost and no charge. There are, however, prizes to be won.
There is a limit on numbers, so book soon, with spaces for only 30 players at the moment. Though spectators are also welcome. It’s happening on 20 October at Big Johnson’s Burger Joint. This is a place modelled on the famous In-N-Out Burger chain of western America.
Think specialist burgers made from 100% beef chuck. And homemade fries. Best yet, unique sauce made from mayonnaise, ketchup, sugar, sweet relish, and white vinegar. You’ll be back for more. Vegan options also available.
Merchandise on offer
There is a range of merchandise available for lovers of the game.. From T-shirts, hoodies, baseball caps and branded packs of playing cards.
But the main theme is about having fun and connecting lovers of the game from across Valencia.
Says Ryan, “One day, we hope to build a community of poker lovers. Long-term, we hope to have various venues and sites for people to come and join the fun.”
