Metro Valencia Line 10 Ready To Open

Many years in the planning, Metro Valencia Line 10 is finally ready to take passengers, from 16 May. The new line will connect Natzaret near the port to Xátiva in the centre. A journey of 16 minutes, that will connect Ruzafa, Montolivet and City of Arts and Sciences. Eugene Costello reports…

New Metro Valencia Line 10 that connects the center with Natzaret will open to passengers from 16 May.

The new line combines underground and overground sections, much as Transport for London does. Line 10 will have an overall route of 5kms and eight stations (three underground and also five above ground).

The new Line 10 of Metrovalencia, which will link the center of Valencia with the Natzaret neighbourhood, has successfully completed the test period for the trams, which began to run on the tracks a few weeks ago, according to Cadenaser.

More than 70 people have been participating throughout this month of April in theoretical and practical training prior to start-up. Among them, regulators, station personnel, emergency personnel and line workshops in Natzaret, in addition to the 36 drivers who will drive the seven Bombardier 4200 series units that are now red, showcasing a new corporate image.

Works began 15 years ago on Metro Valencia Line 10

Work on Metrovalencia Line 10, which began as Line 2, started in 2007 and was due to end in 2012. However, cutbacks by the Alberto Fabra council after the economic crisis of 2011 stopped the works for eight years, which were resumed in April 2019.

Infrastructure: New stations have been built for the route

In this second phase of the works, which have lasted almost three years, more than €50m have been invested. These works have consisted, among other things, in renovating old tram tracks that had been , building the stations and also designing the new warehouse-workshop for the units.

Journey time of 16 minutes

The new Metro Valencia Line 10 will have a traffic light priority system at all pedestrian and vehicle crossings along the entire surface route and will complete the entire journey in an average of 16 minutes.

The European Union are to thank for part-financing the construction project for this line. Done through the operational program of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the Valencian Community 2014-2020.
