We all know someone who’s fallen on hard times — an illness, a lost job, a relationship breakdown, or simply the bad luck that can strike when living abroad.
For British nationals in Spain, the safety net can be worryingly thin. That’s where the British Benevolent Fund (BBF) steps in.
Founded more than a century ago, the BBF is a small but mighty volunteer-run charity providing practical and financial help to Brits in distress across Spain. From emergency repatriation and temporary accommodation to urgent medical and welfare support, their mission is simple: to ensure no Brit is left behind when life goes wrong.
Volunteers wanted — case support and fundraising
Now, the BBF is looking for volunteers to join their team as Case Support Workers and Fundraisers.
Case Support Workers play a vital role in reviewing applications for financial assistance, liaising with beneficiaries, and helping people navigate the support process — often at some of the hardest times of their lives.If you’re more of an ideas person, the BBF also needs creative fundraisers — people who can dream up quiz nights, sponsored walks, raffles, or even charity fashion shows. Every event, however small, helps raise vital funds for those in crisis.

Though entirely volunteer-led, the BBF’s reach is national — from Barcelona to Benidorm, Málaga to Madrid. They work closely with the British Embassy and Consulates, offering a compassionate hand to those in genuine need.
